"Stop the hypocrisy of neglecting your health and expecting your child to eat healthy"
HARMAN SIDHU, Celebrity postpartum fitness influencer and Coach
“A healthy mind has a healthy body and a healthy body has a healthy mind”
_ HARMAN SIDHU , Fitness Influencer and Lifestyle Coach
Born and brought up in a conservative family, where a career in social media stood nowhere in the scene, Harman Sidhu turned out to be one of India’s leading fitness influencers we have today. At the heart of social media platforms , in between millions of feel-good images and the reel life on the boom, it is not a one day miracle, it takes pain, sleepless nights and mounds of sweat, to compose a saga of success . “It has taken a lot to be here.” This is what the celebrity guest on Koffee Konversations remarked, while responding to an exclaimatory praise by our show host.
India is a country, where a lot of gender stereotypes have taken shelter. Although, this is every woman’s responsibility to break these extremely toxic social norms , but it is pathetic to note that most of the women, fit into these hard to open boxes, instead of breaking them down.
You are a mom, take care of your family , sideline all your dreams and push aside yourself first
You are a mom, you should look like a mom
You should first feed your children and everyone else, then think of eating .
This is how the world looks at a woman. The saddest part is that some members of this tribe itself come forward for drawing lines across the other woman’s dreams ,as they never tried breaking the ice, hence they don’t have the heart to appreciate someone else’s efforts. Check point ladies!!!!
More empathy, more support, more courage is required.
Harman Sidhu took her courage in both arms and fought back to regain her lost strength.
As of now, many girls and women are taking to platforms, like Instagram to showcase their brand story and their skills. However, not everyone makes it to the top. Interaction with Harman Sidhu reveals some very crucial points to be noted down, if at all you are keen at building your special category of purposeful existence through social media. Somewhere we commit some basic mistakes and these baby key points, if taken into consideration, can surely bring success to your doorsteps. Fitness is her religion and she loves to talk about her fitness journey.
She felt that something inside her was dying, succumbing to the social pressure, eventually, she was scared of losing herself to life’s challenges and then one fine day, she decided that she would pull herself up, from the slush of fatigue………..
What made Harman switch from a full grown career as an educator to social media influencing ?
Motherhood proved to be a blessing . Who infused the spirit in her?
Diving deeper into the pool of conversations, we discovered that a woman is bound to reach her desired destination, if she is ready to fall, topple down, get hurt and rebegin from point zero. She is bound to win, if she is strong to expel the negative words of crticical pundits and she is bound to shine if she accepts the darkness with a rational approach to drive it away. Harman has been blessed by destiny, in a way that helped her grow exponentially. Not every woman is equally fortunate to get things right but then we all have to fight our battles on our own, luck holds a fraction of credit . Remember that the bigger portion of your story is written by you alone, luck adds to only a tiny chapter.
Postpartum complexities have led women to dark rooms of despair, where they lost their self confidence and the vigour to get back to normal. Women compromise with their dreams to accommodate family responsibility, losing opportunities of growth at work place. Studies have proved that women who take a year off from work after giving birth earn less than women who don’t.
Never give up on your dreams.
If you are a mom or a mom to be , or even if you are a man , this podcast will guide you to a meaningful road.
Here;s an excerpt from the conversation
Q. You are a popular social media fitness influencer. How did it all begin ?
Aah, so it took a lot to be here. I come from a highly conservative family. Social media as aa career option was nowhere. It all started when I was expecting my baby. I started gaining a lot of weight. My doctor said that usually lean and thin girls put on more weight than others but they lose weight after delivering the child. I have always been a fit girl. It was getting worse with the passage of time and after delivering my baby, I fell prey to postpartum complexities, unable to regain my lost energy, having hormonal disturbances , losing sleep, eating too much and finally losing myself to all .I wanted to change myself, get back my lost energy but the image of my aunts losing themselves to motherhood shook me. it was so deep seated within me that the fear of having a bad body with low energy was drowning me into depression. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and burst into tears. My husband being a fitness coach had a lot of transformation credits , changing thousands of people into their better and fitter versions but I felt that he wouldn’t be a help either. He would calm me down and assured that I would be back in my fit form. It was during those days when I did a lot of net browsing to get a single woman with her post pregnancy transformation tale. My husband said that if I was unable to get an inspirational story , it would be great to be an inspiration for others. This motivated me and I started working out , with the sole intention of getting my body back.
Q. So unlike many other women, who make motherhood, a crying tale of their broken dreams, you have proved that it is a reason for your super success.
Yes, this is true, although I paused for sometime, a lot of changes were happening in life, sleepless nights, long breast feeding sessions, mood swings and depression, yet my life took a 360 degree turn, after I got into motherhood. My husband proved to be a true mentor and he showed me the right path, he made me believe that everything was possible if I wanted to help myself. That which bothered me the most, was that if I stayed with those extra kilos on me then how would I enjoy my motherhood, how would I be able to match with the energy level of my child ? I decided to get back to my workouts and things started changing .
Q. Social media influencing has its own challenges. How did you get to the top ?
True, it is challenging but as I said that I come from a highly conservative family, I had little idea about Instagram and all. My husband taught me the tools and encouraged me to post some pictures of my transformation and it went viral. I got a lot of negative feedback too as here I was posting the pictures of my body, to inspire women, who wanted to be fit. My husband stood by my side and he was the one to shut all the nuisance. Since then I have never looked back. I have inspired thousands of women and brought about positive transformation in them.
Q. What is your message to aspiring girls and women who want to build their career in social media influencing ?
Look, there would be moments when you would feel like quitting as a lot of people would visit your profile for various reasons. Stay calm and patient, your time would come, when you would get the right audience. Many of my friends who are bloggers feel uncomfortable to have males coming in and dropping not so pleasing comments, you just need to ignore them and wait for the real audience to stay. You get people who love you, get inspired by you and stay by you. Focus on building your community and stick to the essence of your work. Do not chase brands as the brands would automatically come and money would flow in too . Don’t make your profile an advertisement page, stay by your passion.
Q. What 3 things would you like to convey to the sudience ?
Okay, so I would say that first and foremost remember that you are an individual , don’t lose yourself to relationships, secondly take care of your health and don’t play hypocrisy by ignoring your health and asking your children to eat healthy. thirdly, stay equal in your marraiage .
Q One line that can keep your fans tied up to a fitness regime ?
A healthy body has a healthy mind and a healthy mind has a healthy body.
